Ambleside School of Boerne has been serving the Boerne community since the Fall of 2013.
Whether you are just beginning to explore schooling options or are seeking a meaningful educational change for your child, we welcome your interest in Ambleside School of Boerne.
Students come to Ambleside from various learning environments – public schools, private schools, homeschooling or other Ambleside schools, and from various locations.
Fundamentals:
· Ambleside is a Christ-centered school, providing children with a personalized educational journey in Pre-Kindergarten through 8th Grade.
· As part of Ambleside Schools International, we are one of 25 Member Schools across the world.
· The philosophy of education developed by British educator Charlotte Mason shapes our curriculum and method. Her focus on engaging children with the best of creation and attention to habit-formation are models that remain relevant and poignant in guiding today’s children toward lives of purpose, character, and excellence.
· Class sizes are limited to 16 students, with one class per grade, so that every student and every teacher can be personally mentored in a warm supportive community of families.
· We follow a traditional school calendar, with class from late August through May, from 7:45 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. on Monday – Friday.
Curriculum:
Ambleside Boerne’s curriculum is provided by Ambleside Schools International. This curriculum was developed by Maryellen St. Cyr, the founder of Ambleside School of Fredericksburg and now Director of Curriculum for Ambleside Schools International. With input and advice from the many teachers and principals she has worked with over the years, the curriculum is annually reviewed and updated with input from each of the Ambleside Member Schools.

To provide a living education that fosters the development of great minds and wide interests while cultivating Godly character and nurturing each child’s habits of kindness, attentiveness, diligence, obedience, and respect.
While the primary commitment of Ambleside School is to students and their families, its mission extends beyond simply being a local school. Ambleside School trains and equips parents and teachers who seek to benefit from the insights of Charlotte Mason as they are given living expression at Ambleside. To this end, Ambleside School of Boerne (ASB)
partners with Ambleside Schools International (ASI). In order to fulfill this mission, Ambleside consistently applies the pedagogical insights of
the British educator, Charlotte Mason (1840-1923). Charlotte Mason did not claim to bean innovator, but rather a compiler of the timeless, practical insights into the nature of children and education that guide the practice of great teachers throughout the ages. Through the teacher training college she founded, the hundreds of schools which adopted
her methods, and the voluminous publications of the Parents National Education Union, thousands of students were shaped by her ideas. To better understand these ideas, which form Ambleside’s foundation, parents are strongly encouraged to watch the videos on our
website or read For the Children’s Sake, by Susan Macaulay, When the Children Love to Learn, by Elaine Cooper or A Charlotte Mason Companion, by Karen Andreola. All are available for purchase from Amazon.com. Parents are also invited to participate in the
Charlotte Mason study groups periodically offered by the school.
At Ambleside, children are not defined by strengths or weaknesses. They are not — like unmolded clay — “incomplete and undeveloped” beings. Children are persons, created in the image of God, with vast potential for varied interests and skills, fostered through a broad curriculum and proficient instructors.
The primary work of both student and teacher is to attend. It is the task that precedes all others; attention is a learned skill. Students learn to direct attention towards literature, science, mathematics, history, and geography; attend to insights received from texts and one another; and attend to the practices of thinking, speaking, writing, seeing, drawing, singing, playing, and relating. Attention increases as students form the habits of directing and redirecting attention throughout the learning process.
Ambleside teachers intentionally cultivate habits of attention, listening, reading, thinking, discussing, diligence, and thoroughness regarding work and rightly relating to one another. During these formative times, Ambleside teachers work alongside students, supporting them through presence and accountability.
We invite you to read and watch our book and video resources to learn about the Ambleside Difference. The goal is to provide you with further insight into the foundational principles and methods that Ambleside encompasses. After you have explored our website, we warmly welcome you to visit the school to experience our unique blend of rigorous and relational education, meaningful work for students, and partnership with parents who want to see their children grow.
